George Darko and Wisdom Adzrago have been rewarded with six thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢6,000) each by Daniel McKorley, CEO of MacDan Group of Companies for winning Ghana's first gold medal in men's tennis doubles at the recent All Africa Games in Congo.

Mr. McKorley whose company, McDan Shipping have sponsored lots of Tennis tournaments since coming to the support of the Ghana Tennis Federation over two years ago, also made a cash donation of GH¢2,000 each to all Tennis team members including the coach who represented Ghana at the All Africa Games at a short but impressive breakfast in at his East Legon residence in Accra last Saturday.

George Darko and Wisdom Adzrago made history by clinching the country's first set of gold medals at the continental sporting showpiece after they edged DR Congo in two straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s doubles final.

It was also the first ever gold medal the country won in the history of the sport and an excited Daniel Korley revealed that the success by the brilliant duo has encouraged him a lot and shown that his company's sponsorship of the sport is yielding fruits.

"McDan took over Tennis to make a difference and see the results in just two years, and I am certain that there are more successes to come," Mr. McKorley said.

"I want to congratulate the players who made it to the All Africa Games and especially those who won medals. They didn't let me down, they have shown that our investment in Ghana Tennis will not go waste," he added.

"Tennis is one of the highest paying sports in the world but we are joking with it. Not very long ago, football was borrowing money form Ghana Tennis, I want that to happen again.

"McDan Tennis Open next year is going international, West Africa and the prize money will be doubled again."

Isaac Duah, Vice President of the Ghana Tennis Federation expressed appreciation to McDan Shipping for their continued support of the sport and appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate the feat.

"We say a big thank you to McDan, we are really overwhelmed. He has been supporting Ghana Tennis for a very long time and we are truly grateful," Mr. Duah noted.

"With your support and support of corporate Ghana, we hope to take Ghana Tennis back into Euro Africa Zone 2. We have a lot of talents in this country, with a little push we can go places," the GTF Vice President added.
