Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has extended his contract with FC Nordsjaelland which will see him remain at the club until 2023, the club has confirmed.

Essien, 38, joined the Danish outfit as an on-field training coach in September 2020.

The former Ghana international has been learning the ropes under the guidance of head coach  Flemming Pedersen.

And the former Real Madrid midfielder has agreed to extend his stay in Denmark.

FCN coach Flemming Pedersen said, “Michael Essien has chosen to extend with us until the summer of 2023.

“We have just looked at each other in the first year, but it has been a no-brainer for him, and he told me that he likes to be here.”

Essien will continue to spend time at the club to gain experience and knowledge in his pursuit to be a qualified coach.
