Hearts of Oak inched closer to claiming a domestic double after beating Elmina Sharks 1-0 at the Nduom Stadium to reach the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
A game that was stretched to the elastic limit, saw the full time end with no goals recorded between the 2020/21 Ghana league champions and the relegation survivors.
The 2000 CAF Champions League winners however left it late to claim the win after defender, Caleb Amankwah swept in a free kick on the 107th minute.
It was the second time Hearts defeated Elmina Sharks in two months, first in the premier league at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second round.
Hearts coach, Samuel Boadu believes Elmina Sharks could not match the quality level of his side.
“It was really really tough, as you can see we scored them during the competition, the premiership, we scored them at the Accra Sports Stadium but they were complaining too much.
“So we were coming here to score them again for them to know their standard.
“They [Elmina Sharks ] are below us [Hearts of Oak]. Samuel Boadu said.
The Phobians, who will represent Ghana at the 2021/22 CAF Champions League will play the winner between Medeama SC and lower-tier club, Attram de Visser in the semi-finals.
The Phobians finished last season’s league with 61 points, four better than second-place and arch-rivals, Asante Kotoko.
The Rainbow club is the 2001 CAF Super Cup and the 2004 CAF Confederation, winners.
