MTN FA Cup: Hearts of Oak is champions again complete double win in 2021

Accra Hearts of Oak has completed a season double in the season, beating Ashantigold Soccer Club on penalties to win it’s 11th FA Cup trophy.

Hearts of Oak’s goalkeeper, Richard Attah, delivering the trophy in a marathon penalty-kick shootout.

After 120 minutes of swift counter attacking action, both sides had to settle for penalties, one which the current Ghana Premier League champions, Accra Hearts of Oak triumphed.

The Phobians had the better of the chances, pulling together intricate passes but could not carve out the backline of the Ashgold team.

Ashgold captain, Richard Osei Agyemang holding his team together with a spirited performance to keep his side in the game the entire period.

The Miners themselves had chances of their own but could not that finishing touch to break the mended hearts of Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The introduction of Ibrahim Salifu kept the Phobian attack sharp could not find provide answers to their quest for a goal in the final 30 minutes of action.

The Phobians thought they had themselves a penalty in the 116th minute of the game but Referee Daniel Laryea waived, signalling it was a clean shove by the Ashgold defender.

The fans roared, edging the 21 times Ghana Premier League champions to find the back of the net but Ashgold were resolute, keeping their heads in the game.

It was however on penalty shootouts that Samuel Boadu and his men secured a season double.

Fataw, the Hearts captain stepped up first and calmly scored. Amos Addae miscued his strike, giving Hearts an early advantage on penalties after a brilliant save by Richard Attah.

Emmanuel Nettey stepped up and delivered but Caleb Amankwah’s miss kept fans on the edge, however, David Abagna also smashed the ball against the crossbar and restored Heart’s lead.

Robert Addo Sowah dispatched his kick with perfection, Banahene, also doing same for Ashgold.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh came short, with the Kofi Mensah saving his side as Akoto drew level on penalties.

Mohammed Alhassan kept his cool slotted home the ball with Yaw Annor also smashing in the ball.

Victor Aidoo, Raddy Ovuka all scored to keep both fans and players nervy as Ashgold followed suit.

Benjamin Afutu’s strike was calmly saved Kofi Mensah who thought he had become the hero of the game but Richard Attah had ideas of his own, saving the next penalty and blasting home his strike to win it all for Accra Hearts of Oak.

The stadium erupted after goalkeeper, Kofi Mensah hit the ball well over the ball.

Accra Hearts of Oak came into the game with record of being the team with the best defensive recording in the FA Cup, conceding just a goal and it was evident in their play as they kept out The Miners ..

Hearts of Oak have now won it’s seventh double in the club’s history. Having done the double in 1973,1979, 1990, 1996, 1999 and 2000.
